TIB Essay:
When you look at society today, what do you see? Immense greed? That never ending cycle of prejudice and racism? Countless acts of evil and hate? When I look at society, I see those things. I see the single story over taking the minds of the world’s growing population of sheeple. I see the parasitic thing called hate thriving within us, but in this endless vortex of destruction, we must hold one another close. We must try to make each day on this earth better for at least one person every day. We live in a time where there is so much sadness, grief, and struggle, but if you can fight beyond that darkness to find a dimly glowing face, try to make that light brighter. Go out of your way at work to make a tired and hungry nurse a fresh salad because she informed you that she only eats once a day. Try to memorize the names of your regular customers and the preferences they have. Remember that the one man who comes in and orders a single sandwich doesn’t need a tray, mention that you remember that about him. Ask your local cashiers how their days are going. Complement those growing boys and girls on their beauty and their talents. Check in on your teachers and school staff. The simple things in life are the smallest things missing, but they make copious amounts of differences in the lives of the people around you. So make that salad for that nurse and after she thanks you over and over again, watch her walk away with huge smile on her face and nothing but appreciation in her heart. That man who didn’t need a tray, smiled and laughed because you remembered and said you were a sweetheart and walked away with happiness at the thought of someone he may have only seen once a month, remembered him. Unless you’re a cashier or you know one yourself, you may never know how much of a difference you make by addressing us by our name when you ask us how we’re doing. That little boy who kicked that ball all the way across the field, or that little girl with the thick seemingly unmanageable hair that you wish you had, they could be getting bullied every single day or fighting with self image, and you complimenting them, may have just altered their entire mindset for the better. Help the elderly and take the time to know and love them and learn their stories. Make sure your family members both near and far know that you love them and that you’re thinking about them, try to help at least one person, I can’t stress this to you enough how positive of a difference you could be making. You don’t know what those dimly lit faces go home to, or what they are feeling, but I can tell you, saying hello, giving a warm smile, or a compliment, or even remembering one small detail, will turn that faint glimmer into a light as bright as the sun. In return, I can tell you that the light you carry within you, your happiness, will be shining just as bright knowing how much of a difference you just made on this earth.
